Philogyny

Philogyny refers to the admiration of women. It is the opposite of misogyny. Misogyny is a ubiquitous term referring to many aspects of society. Still, it strikes me as unfortunate that we don't use the concept of philogyny to celebrate all the ways we can and should celebrate women.

There is so much to admire about women. Their contributions to the academy and their leadership and management styles are assets to any college or university. Women's unique contributions should be called out and celebrated. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen often enough and can't happen too often. Therefore, I have decided to claim this term and embrace it. On this site, my comments and discussions will turn toward this concept and away from the focus on misogyny. To that end, I will hereafter refer to myself as a philogynist.
